Welcome to the Intern Diaries. At Milk HQ, a lot happens behind the scenes and our interns are an integral part of everything we do. Here you'll get an inside look to see exactly what a day in the life looks like for them. Our interns learn about careers in product development, design, brand storytelling, and so much more—and they have plenty of cool stories and on-the-job advice to share. This week, get to know Estee, our Editorial Intern who will probably be your next magazine editor and exclusively drinks matcha.

What school do you go to?

I go to Cornell University—like Andy from The Office.

What are you studying?

I am studying English or Literatures in English, if you want to be exact.

What’s your zodiac sign?

I am an Aries sun, Pisces moon, Scorpio rising.

What’s your dream job?

My dream job is to be a creative director of a magazine or maybe an editor or editor in chief. I want to oversee creative and the writing and see all of it come together. That’s what I am really interested in, seeing the before and after of it all.

Why did you want to intern at Milk?

Well, first off, because I was free for the Summer. But I always wanted to explore the editorial, creative side of writing, and I thought copywriting was a good way to get into that. I currently write for the school paper, so I thought it would be an easy transition from a very rigid way of writing to something that lets me express myself more. When I saw the listing for the position, I was like, “I really want to intern here because it looks really fun and I really love their products.” So here we are now!

What’s your personal relationship with beauty?

I didn't really start wearing makeup until college. In high school, I was so low maintenance, since I had to wake up early and always got home so late. There was no point in wearing makeup. Even when I was in college, I thought I didn’t really need it because I had to wake up 30 minutes before class. Now, I'm realizing makeup enhances your natural beauty, and I like that. I can put on a look really quickly and customize it to my needs. I just feel comfortable doing it for myself—it just makes me feel good.

What’s your favorite Milk product and why?

The Melatonin Overnight Lip Mask. That one is so good. I never used lip masks before and then I tried this one. Boom—dryness gone! It smells so good, like chamomile, and I love chamomile. I I just love to smell it. I also really like to highlight with Bionic Glow

What’s a typical day at Milk like for you?

I wake up in the morning and do a little makeup look with Milk products, then I walk over to the SoHo office. I usually show up around 10 or 11, depending on the day. I then head over to my desk, say hello to everyone, and get some daily updates. I also like to check and see if the other interns are around and then I’ll go to the plaza [ed note: that’s what we call our lobby/hangout space at Milk HQ] and we’ll work around a little table together and vibe. If nobody is around, I’ll sit in the plaza and soak up the natural light or I’ll go to my desk and hang out there. Sometimes Kate’s dog, Hank, is there, and I’ll stay just to give him belly rubs.

What’s your go-to coffee/tea order?

My go-to tea order is an iced matcha with a shot of espresso—aka a dirty matcha. Because I need caffeine, but I can’t stand plain lattes and coffee because they just make me extra jittery and I can’t drink it on an empty stomach. But, matcha is sweet and actually has flavor and benefits. Well, “benefits” because apparently if you mix matcha with milk, it doesn’t do anything. But it tastes good and keeps me awake!

What’s an album or song you’re listening to on repeat?

The Weeknd’s Dawn FM. I really like this album, I’m still trying to go through the whole thing. It’s such an immersive experience and I really like the transitions. I feel like this album was curated so that you listen to it in order—it’s kind of funky. It’s almost like a radio segment but in album form.

What advice do you have for prospective interns?

Don’t be afraid to reach out to other people, ask questions, and just talk to other interns and people in general—you never know who you might connect with. I’ve met some really close friends, and they’ve made the intern experience fun. So, don’t be afraid to speak up and get to know people.

What’s the thing you’re most proud of that you’ve worked on at Milk?

I think it has to be the Jay Perez x Milk Merch blog post. It was my first ever blog post and my first time promoting some of our products. I was able to learn how to find my own voice as a writer, plus I loved working in all of the different formats. Getting to do that and see it all come together was really fun.
