5 Liquid Bronzer Hacks Makeup Artists Swear By

Getting natural-looking warmth has never been easier.

Bronzer is easily one of the most important steps in our makeup routines. And whether you prefer cream bronzer, powder bronzer, or liquid bronzer, there are tons of bronzer hacks you should know.

“I use bronzer to create a sunkissed glow and add warmth to skin,” says Milk Makeup Director of Artistry Sara Wren. In addition to our Matte Bronzer, a super-convenient cream bronzer stick, we rely on our liquid Bionic Bronzer for the just-came-from-a-getaway glow, plus added skincare benefits. Best of all, there is a whole new way to wear the look, thanks to our latest shade addition, Mind Reader, a very deep bronze designed for rich skin tones in need of a little more warmth.

Whether you’re new to the liquid bronzer world or you’re an established Bionic Bronzer fan, there are a number of liquid bronzer hacks that can elevate your technique. Ahead, find five ways Sara loves to use Bionic Bronzer, every day.

Mix it up.

One of the makeup artist’s favorite ways to use liquid bronzer is by mixing it in with foundation or tinted moisturizer, especially “if I am looking for an all-over, hydrated, more subtle glow,” she says. Liquid formulas are ultra-versatile, and “can be worn under concealer, mixed into foundation, or tapped on top of a finished look,” says Sara.

Go for the glow.

Bionic Bronzer is shimmer free, but if you like an added layer of radiance, tryBionic Glowinstead. “I am amassivefan of Bionic Glow in Reality for summer to mix in with my moisturizer orfoundation to add a soft highlight glow but also add a subtle bronzey warmth,” says Sara.

Layer your bronzers.

One bronzer is great. But two bronzers? Even better, especially for added dimension. “First, I start with matte bronzer to help map the shape of my client’s face,” says Sara, explaining: “I do a soft sculpt or ‘baby contour’ by applying it to temples, hollows of cheeks, under the middle lower lip line and through the crease on eyes.” Then, she says, “I buff all this out with a fluffy brush and then go in with Bionic Bronzer to add warmth on tops of cheeks, across the nose, and temples.”

Use your hand as a palette.

Of course, you can use your fingers to apply Bionic Bronzer, but you can also use the back of your hand and your favorite brush instead. “With a liquid bronzer, I like to use a brush and work off the back of my hand or a palette to make sure to coat the brush evenly with product before applying,” explains Sara.

Think beyond the face.

Bionic Bronzer adds a gorg glow to your face, but it’s a great product to apply to the rest of your body too. “I also use cream and liquid bronzers for chest and neck makeup to create that vacation glow,” says the pro. You can use it as is, or go for the mixing trick and blend it in with your go-to body lotion for subtle, healthy-looking color.
