It's All About Berry Lipstick This Summer

July 29 is right around the corner, which means National Lipstick Day is almost here once again. To celebrate, consider berry lipstick instead of your classic crimson red lipstick.

If you ask us, the fruity summer hue is one of those lip colors that flatter everyone’s skin tone. Reason being: Berry red combines cool blue pigments with warm red undertones to instantly brighten all complexions, no matter what your skincare routine is like lately.

Lip + Cheek in Quickie is our favorite product for the job. We may be biased, but we think you’ll quickly see why we think it’s one of the best berry lipsticks in the game.

Our best-selling vegan, cruelty-free formula is infused with skincare ingredients, particularly vitamin E, avocado oil, and mango seed oil. Lip + Cheek also brings together the powers of a nourishing satin finish lipstick with the feel of a lip balm and hydrating, longwear blush in one foolproof stick. So after you swipe on the lip color—lip liner optional,  you can also add it to your cheeks for a summery monochromatic berry look.

The pigmentation of Lip + Cheek is also incredibly easy to adjust, so you can build up the intensity of the rich hue for a more blackberry vibe on your pout, and keep it sheer on your cheeks for a subtle raspberry wash of color. You can also layer a lip gloss, like  Electric Glossy Lip Plumper in Amped, on top of your berry lipstick for a high-shine, shimmer-free effect that’s “amazing for a juicy night out,” says Sara Wren, Milk Makeup’s Director of Artistry.

Alternately, Sara recommends pairing berry lipsticks, like Quickie, with coral blush and eyeshadow for a playfully unexpected contrast. Try the hyaluronic acid-spiked Bionic Blush in Teleport to make it happen. Need some other Quickie look inspiration? Members of our Milk Fam have lots to share for a fun berry lip moment.

“Quickie is such a flattering berry shade, both on lips and cheeks. I love how hydrating and buttery-smooth the formula is on my lips; the bright berry pigment truly glides right on. Although you can easily wear it on its own, I like to amp up the shine by prepping my lips with a layer of Melatonin Overnight Lip Mask. (Yes, you can wear it during the day, too, like a lip balm.)

I always swipe on two layers of Quickie: the first goes all over my lips, and then the second gets concentrated toward the center of my lips for a juicy ombre effect. It’s a shade that pairs well with a lot of different looks, and I’m wearing it here with some of my daily essentials: Highlighter in Lit, KUSH Shadow Brow Stick in MJ, Infinity Long Wear Eyeliner in Limitless, and RISE Waterproof Mascara.”

“Quickie is a deep berry color that looks great on my lips. I love how smooth and creamy the formula is; it's extremely moisturizing, leaving my lips as smooth as butter every time I use it. For a very pigmented result, I always use three layers of Quickie. I'm wearing it with a few of my daily essentials: KUSH Brow Lamination Gel, Matte Bronze in Blitzed, Highlighter in Lit, and the ultimate set and refresh spray, Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray."

“Quickie is the staple shade that I carry in my makeup bag during all seasons. The lip color is the perfect combo of bright berry and rose. You can easily build it up to create that deeper blackberry tone or sheer it out for a rosy tint.

I love to make Quickie the focus of my look by adding a couple of layers on my cheeks for more drama and patting it onto the lips for a softer, satin lipstick vibe. It’s truly so customizable and chic. I’m wearing it here along with Sunshine Skin Tint, Future Fluid Concealer, Highlighter in Lit, KUSH Eyebrow Lamination Gel, KUSH Brow Shadow Stick in Grind, and KUSH Mascara.”

“Quickie is definitely a berry color that I always tell people they must swatch. It’s truly that girl that goes with any skin tone, and you don’t need to be afraid of the color.

I apply Quickie onto my beauty sponge before lightly bouncing the sponge across the apples of the cheeks and nose. Then, I create a flattering just-bitten lip look by swiping Quickie onto the center of my lips and sheering it down with my finger.”

Jihan Forbes (she/her), Editorial Manager

“Bright berry is one of my fave lipstick shades. I have yet to see it look anything other than flattering on anyone. I typically swipe Quickie onto my lips straight from the stick and blend out the edges of my lips for a diffused tint with a hydrated matte lipstick finish.

For this look, I got a little bougie with it, using a lip brush for a more precise application. I put on just enough to add a summery hint of color to my overall look. I wanted my lips to look like I just ate a really delicious berry red popsicle. Mission accomplished.”

Quickie is my favorite color for that flushed, English rose look. The hydrating formula is easily buildable for a flush or a deeper burgundy look; it almost reminds me of a chic wine-mouth lip stain!”

“Quickie is the one lip color that people stop me on the streets to ask me what I’m wearing. My favorite way to wear Quickie is first dabbing it onto my cheeks, then using my finger to smudge the excess onto my lips, focusing heavily on the center.

I like to pair the look with our Highlighter in Lit to create a glowing summer vibe. Plus, the Hydro Grip Primer, Future Fluid, KUSH Brow Laminate Gel, and Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray bring the luminosity all together.”
