Fluffy brows are having a moment. Actually, they have been having a moment for quite some time now. That signature fullness with a touch of lift creates the perfect face-framing effect that lends itself to every makeup look, from glowing skin to a dramatic smokey eye. They seem deceptively easy, like you could just grab a brow brush, sweep it through with abandon, and be done. Not so fast—just like any makeup trend, there’s an art to perfecting them. If you want fluffy brows worthy of your favorite supermodel’s beauty routine, you need one key product (and a few expert tips).

The product in question is none other than the Milk Makeup KUSH Fiber Brow Gel. It’s the perfect tool to master fluffy brows, even if you’re a brow-shaping beginner. “First of all, it’s very easy to use for somebody who doesn’t want to fuss too much with their brows,” says Sara Wren, our Director of Artistry. “It can not only add tint and volume, but also hold. However you want your brows that day, it'll lock in the style.”

If the words “brow gel” conjure up visions of crunchy, flaky brow hairs, fear not: We formulated ours with an alcohol-free conditioning formula that doesn’t leave any crusty residue behind. It actually feels like a conditioning mask for your brow hairs, all while delivering the promised fluffy results. Want to try it out? We asked Sara to break down her best tips and tricks to get the brows of your dreams.

How to Get Full, Fluffy Brows

Step 1: Subtly shape your brows.

Your natural brows will serve as the foundation of this look. If there are any stray hairs above or below the arch, you can remove them for a cleaner shape. Make sure you don’t take too much of your natural brow away as you do this: Fluffy brows look best when they’re full. (If you don’t have naturally full brows, try applying KUSH Lash + Brow Serum nightly for healthier and fuller-looking brows.)

There are a few ways to remove stray brow hairs, but Sara prefers to work with tweezers for errant hairs and scissors or a brow razor for subtle sculpting. “I’ll wait until after I get out of the shower, take a spoolie and brush all my brow hairs up,” she says. From there, she trims the tail of the brow with a small pair of scissors. You can also opt for a razor here. “I love a brow razor for slightly cleaning the ends,” she says.

Step 2: Create fullness with a brow pencil or pen.

After you’ve cleaned up, it’s time to fill in any sparse areas. Grab a tinted brow pencil, brow gel, or brow pen (we recommend our KUSH Brow Shadow Stick) and draw light, hair-like strokes wherever you need to emphasize your eyebrow shape. This is an easy way to fake naturally full brows if you’re in the process of growing them out. We particularly love working with our KUSH brow pen because the micro tips make it easy to create the illusion of real hairs wherever you want to add them.

If you have naturally full brows, you may be tempted to skip this step and go straight to gel. Don’t. “I always like to lay down a base with a brow pen first,” says Sara. “It creates the structure and shape of your fluffy brow.”

Step 3: Prime your brows for extra volume.

Just like makeup primer can do wonders for your foundation, lash primer can also take your fluffy brows to the next level. Sara loves to repurpose our KUSH Lash Primer as a base for her brows. “It promotes a lifting effect and holds very well,” she says. “Not only is it going to add thickening fibers to your brows, but you can also use it as brow glue for extra hold.” If you remember the soap brows hack for creating volume, our primer accomplishes the same thing—with added conditioning benefits.

Step 4: Get the fluffy brow effect with a brow gel.

It’s time to lift and fluff your brows with KUSH Brow Gel. “This step is where you add volume and hold,” says Sara. You have two options here: a tinted gel close to your natural shade, or a clear one like KUSH Clear Brow Gel. The clear version will give you a subtler take on fluffy brows, keeping them locked and lifted, but cutting down slightly on the illusion of fullness. It’s also great if you prefer a brushed-up, laminated brow look.

If you want to max out a full finish, then our tinted gel is your new best friend, thanks to thickening fibers in the formula. It comes in eight natural shades that make it easy to find your best match. Sara’s tip for finding your perfect shadow of brow gel is to err on the lighter side. “I always say go lighter because it won’t look jarring,” she says.

Start by looking at the root of your brow hairs, then go one shade lighter for a subtle effect. If you want something more dramatic (but still natural), you can choose a brow gel that’s one shade darker. “I wouldn’t suggest going beyond one shade darker or one shade lighter,” she says.

For an even more TikTok-worthy effect, try Sara’s two-tone brow. “If you look at your brows closely, you’ll see that not every hair is the same color,” she says. “So if you take two shades and mix them, you’ll get a dimensional tone that’s more reflective of how your actual brow hairs look.” To get the look, concentrate the lighter shade toward the center of your brow and the darker one toward the tail, making sure to blend them together. The inner third of your brows should remain brushed up, light, and fluffy. “That way you don’t get the angry brow,” she says.

Application is especially important when working with a fiber brow gel. To get fluffy, natural volume, apply the gel in two directions rather than sweeping it through once. “With our tinted KUSH Fiber Brow Gel, I backcomb my brows first,” says Sara. “I take any excess product off the brush, and then backcomb to drop all the fibers throughout the brow. After that, I’ll brush forward to smooth everything back in place.” Not only does our brow gel help hold your fluffy brows in place all day, it also has a conditioning formula that gives a soft (never crunchy!) effect.
