Hayley Williams is literally the voice of her generation. Her incredible vocal prowess, which is currently on glorious display during Paramore’s national tour, is what she’s best-known for. So the fact that she’s almost as well-known for her beauty looks as she is for her voice says a lot about how consistently awesome her hair and makeup is. Like many other artists, she and her makeup artist have looked to Milk Makeup to craft show-stopping looks that won’t stop during any show.
Her secret to getting high-intensity looks to last through an entire concert? The prime-and-set duo known as Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer and Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray. This Pore Eclipse sandwich ensures a filtered, smooth canvas and long-lasting grip paired with a soft-matte finish that keeps any look going strong all day (and night). It’s also how Hayley’s makeup artist (and hairstylist, as well as partner in their hair color company, Good Dye Young) Brian O’Connor, created the retro-meets-edgy masterpiece that Hayley recently wore on tour.
"The two of us brainstorm and send each other inspiration," says Brian of the Debbie Harry-inspired look. "For this look in particular, we really pulled from some of the most iconic Debbie looks with that cool, sultry smoky eye—and of course the super sharp and sculpted cheekbones."
Before any smoky blending or sculpting could take place, Brian had to lock down Hayley's base. "If you’ve ever seen Hayley perform, you know that keeping her look locked in for the entire show is a feat," he says. "I love Milk Makeup’s prep and set products and use them on her before a show."
After priming Hayley’s skin with a lightweight layer of Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer, Brian skipped foundation and used Future Fluid All Over Cream Concealerin 1W, 2C, and 3N to give Hayley customized complexion coverage. "I like how buildable this formula is and how it never looks cakey as I apply," he says. Mixing all three was essential to achieving a "full-coverage yet natural-looking finish" because the variation in shades helped softly sculpt her cheekbones and add brightness to her under eyes. Paired with Pore Eclipse, the lightweight formula of Future Fluid lasted through even the most energetic set without creasing.
Next, Brian used Matte Bronzer to add subtly sunkissed warmth and dimension on Hayley’s skin. Before topping it off with Bionic Glow in Virtual, he added a rosy blush to Hayley’s cheeks with a combination of Bionic Blush in Infinity and Lip + Cheek in Smirk. The beauty of Lip + Cheek: It can be used on both the lips and cheeks, which is exactly what he did by tapping it onto her lips for a coordinating soft pink shade.
Hayley’s eye makeup was the focal point of the look, contrasting the softness of her blush and lip color with a playful intensity. To add extra lid insurance, Brian prepped Hayley’s lids with Hydro Grip Eye Primer, which keeps eye makeup smudge-free for hours on end. He dusted her lids with Color Chalk in Freeze, a shimmery silver, and enhanced the shape of her eyes by lining her lash line and crease with Infinity Long Wear Eyeliner in Outer Space. To finish the look, he used our lash-lifting RISE Waterproof Mascara and filled in her brows with a combination of KUSH Brow Shadow Stick in MJ and KUSH Brow Lamination Gel, framing her eyes flawlessly. "The Color Chalk gave that disco-ball, glittery effect that helped bring her whole look together," he says.
All of these Milk essentials have impressive stage presence on their own, but once Brian set them with an allover mist of Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray, no amount of belting, dancing, and onstage antics could compromise Hayley's tour makeup.
