Lana Del Rey cemented herself in the pop culture canon over a decade ago with her moody music and vintage aesthetic. But even with her it-girl status secured, Del Rey has remained an enigma of sorts. While she’s not one to soak up the limelight in daily doses, she's sure to serve a look when she does hit the scene.

Cue her latest cover for Harper’s Bazaar. The star graced the renowned magazine with her signature retro glam aesthetic and we are still swooning. Celebrity makeup artist Etienne Ortega not only offers us an inside scoop on how to recreate Lana Del Ray’s beauty looks, he also spills on his approach to the shoot.

“The Harper’s Bazaar cover with Lana Del Rey was such a fashion moment, that we wanted that to speak for itself, so did not want to overdo it with glam,” Etienne shares. “However, that’s not always a bad thing.”

A subdued beauty moodboard allowed Lana’s natural features to shine. Etienne leaned into mauve tones on her eyes, perfected a sculpted complexion, and topped it all off with a peachy pout and bold lashes.

“I used Milk Makeup for this specific look because their products are very high quality and pigmented,” he shares.

Naturally, he started with Hydro Grip Primer, which, according to Etienne, is “a good solid base for the shoot day.” He went on to use Future Fluid All Over Cream Concealer in 10w, though, admittedly, Lana didn’t need much coverage.

Next up was Sculpt Stick in Stoked to bring out the natural contours in her cheekbones and nose. That was followed by Lip + Cheek in Enigma, which was used as a shadow base, blush, and lip stain. You know we stan a multi-use product! Etienne then smudged a little Infinity Long Wear Eyeliner in Outer Space at the lash line, right before dusting her face with Pore Eclipse Setting Powder in translucent light to set her makeup.

The entire look was finished with a spritzing of our award-winning Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray. Not only did it set Lana’s makeup, but it brought back a dewiness to the look and helped melt in that setting powder to give her skin a natural, healthy-looking texture.
