Exactly How to Do That Chappell Roan Halloween Makeup Look

Good luck, babe!

Milk Makeup is celebrating Spooky Season all month. Every year, you turn our Hydro Grip best sellers into so many killer looks that we’ve officially dubbed this month Hydroween. Throughout October, you’ll see us rolling out all the Halloween costume inspiration you’ll need for 2024, created by our Milk Fam with your favorite Milk Makeup products.

Today, it’s creator Kaitlynn Hong (@kaitlynnnoodles) and her Chappell Roan Halloween makeup look. Keep reading to see how she dials up the glam.

If your Halloween costume ideas are pointing you in the direction of a certain Midwest Princess, then this Chappell Roan Halloween makeup look was made for you. Yes, you may be tempted to just use the TikTok filter and call it a day, but we promise this one’s easier than it looks. All you need to channel Chappell’s beauty vibes are a pump of Hydro Grip, a ton of blush, and a commitment to full glam—no subtlety allowed here.

There are too many show-stopping Chappell Roan beauty moments to count, but this Halloween, we’re paying tribute to her NPR Tiny Desk glam. You’ve already seen this one all over your FYP, famously created by makeup artist and drag queen Sterling Tull, inspired by Pat McGrath’s 2007 Dior couture glam. Keep reading to see how Kaitlynn puts a Milk spin on this iconic beauty moment.

1. Prime

A look this good has to last all night. The key? Skin that’s primed, smooth, and hydrated. For a base that stays locked, grab our best-selling Hydro Grip Primer, which is so good, it’s won 10 awards. This gel primer grips makeup and hydrates skin to keep your base from caking or creasing, meaning your Chappell Roan look is guaranteed to stay fresh for up to 12 hours. Apply 1-2 pumps to freshly-cleansed skin and let it set for 60 seconds to activate its grip. If you want to break out the fan like Kaitlynn does to help it dry, it’s not necessary, but we’re never mad at a windblown beauty moment.

2. Base + Blush

Now that your skin is prepped and primed, it’s time to go in with your base. Skip the foundation and add a sheer layer of white face paint or a very light shade of concealer. Kaitlynn’s using our Future Fluid Creamy Hydrating Concealer in 6C, with which she paints on in a thin layer and blends out with a damp makeup sponge. Blush layering is key here, so don’t be shy and pile it on—the more layers, the better. We love how a watercolor stain like Cooling Water Jelly Tint in Chill looks here; just remember that it dries fast, so blend immediately and work one cheek at a time.

While we’d normally save a setting spray for the last step of your makeup, now’s a good time to mist generously so your base stays locked and hydrated while you work on the rest of your makeup. Kaitlynn goes in with Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray, our alcohol-free, dewy setting spray that weightlessly sets your makeup for up to 12 hours. It keeps your skin glowy and locks your Hydroween look so it doesn’t fade.

3. Brows + Eyes

Time to sketch out those arched brows. Skip the brow pencil and let your eyeliner pull double duty; if you use a smudge-proof pencil like our Infinity Long Wear Eyeliner in Outer Space, it’ll glide on smooth without tugging and stay put throughout the night. To make your eyeshadow stand out and keep your eye makeup and under-eye concealer smooth and fresh, prep your lids and under eyes with a layer of Hydro Grip Eye Primer. We admit: This blue cut crease takes a little patience, but if you want to do a simplified version, just take a blue eyeshadow like our Color Chalk in Yo-Yo and blend it up all the way to your brows. Do a little winged liner with Infinity, then fan out your lashes with KUSH High Roll Tubing Mascara, our clean tubing mascara that separates every single lash for high definition and stays on without smudging or flaking for up to 24 hours. If you want more drama, add a strip of false lashes and your favorite eye gems.

4. Lips

For your lips, choose a dark lip liner and do. Not. Blend! Keep the line defined and lay down a long-lasting base with a lip stain like our Jelly Tint in Chill (this is also a cute way to match your lip color to your blush). Give it some shine with a coat of Odyssey Lip Oil Gloss in Adventure, a lavender shimmer that looks extra juicy under the spotlight.

5. Set

Remember that Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray you used to lock your base? Bring it back for a final spritz to ensure everything stays fresh throughout the night. If you want to double-lock it or add a soft-matte filtered finish, go in with a light layer of Pore Eclipse Matte Translucent Setting Powder before your setting spray. It’s talc-free, so it won’t cause any flashback in photos. Now all you have to do is grab your wig and tiara, and you’re basically Chappell Roan. Good luck, babe!
