All the Milk Makeup Products Used for Dove Cameron's 2023 VMAs Look

Makeup artist Kale Teter gives us the breakdown.

Major congrats are in order for our girl Dove Cameron. The triple threat won big at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, nabbing the Video for Good award for her song “Breakfast,” a powerful project about the negative impact traditional gender roles have on young women.

Her look for the iconic award show was just as powerful, thanks to the incredible skill of her makeup artist Kale Teter, who turned to our very own Milk Makeup products to craft the show-stopping beat. “For the VMAs this year, Dove helped design her own dress, which is long, sparkly, and ethereal,” Kale said. “We took that as our inspiration for glam and really leaned into this glowy, dark siren vibe.”

Call us biased, but we think they nailed it. Seriously—Dove’s next role could be a young Morticia Addams with this sleek dark hair and smudged black eyeliner. “We have a beautiful pearly sheen all over the skin and carefully-placed highlights on the face,” Kale continued. “Then, we did some liner on the eyes and really smudged and diffused it, so it looked more integrated and not like a big eyeliner moment.”

But before any liner could be applied, Kale had to lock down Dove’s base. He first applied another award-winner, Hydro Grip Primer, to her clean skin. The hydrating face primer literally grips makeup up to 12 hours so Dove’s look could stay on through the show—and all the afterparties. It also hydrates skin with hyaluronic acidas it prevents makeup from melting off or becoming cakey throughout the night.

Next, to achieve that pearlescent glowing complexion, Kale applied Bionic Glow in Virtual to Dove’s skin before applying foundation. Then, for some soft contouring, Kale used Sculpt Stick in Toasted to ensure a seamless application with no obvious lines.

To brighten the center of Dove’s face, he applied Future Fluid All Over Cream Concealer in 3N, before going in with the shade 5W for some warmth and dimension. To set the face makeup, Kale applied our new Pore Eclipse Matte Translucent Setting Powder in Light. The talc-freepowder controls shine, blurs pores and fine lines, and sets makeup with a natural matte finish.

For Dove’s sultry eye look, Kale first lined them with Infinity Long Wear Eyeliner in Limitless, drawing it slightly out at the corners to emphasize a feline shape. He then applied Color Chalk in Trampoline and Freeze to her lids and blended it out with the liner. To finish off the eyes, Kale applied two coats of the RISE Waterproof Mascara to avoid any smudging or flaking throughout the long day and night.

Because Dove’s eyes are so dramatic, Kale skipped lipstick and instead used the new Odyssey Lip Oil Gloss in Globetrot to complement the coolness of Dove’s look and give an iridescent tone to the lips.

To lock all that hard work in place, Kale spritzed Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray all over Dove’s face. The award-winning, dual-phase, alcohol-free makeup setting spray sets makeup up to 12 hours and hydrates skin for a dewy glow that truly lasts.

Finally, to give a gorgeous sheen to Dove’s body, Kale applied Bionic Glow in Virtual. The liquid illuminator has skincare benefits with hydrating snow mushroom, reishi mushroom, and hyaluronic acid, plus plant-derived collagen to help improve the look of skin texture, elasticity, and firmness.

These Milk Makeup essentials ensured Dove had the night of her life and looked great doing it—with her Moonman in hand.
