Hydro Grip Locked in Simone Biles' Makeup for Her Olympic Gold Win

NBD, just two icons making history.

The 2024 Paris Olympics have served up a stream of iconic moments, and Simone Biles' makeup tops the list. Her history-making routine lives rent-free in our minds and so does a certain medal-worthy Hydro Grip Primer sighting. The GOAT of gymnastics has never been one to gatekeep a beauty secret; if you follow her on TikTok, you’ve had firsthand access to her full pre-Olympic beauty prep, from nails and hair to a base that stays locked under pressure.

Last Friday, before she stepped up to win yet another gold in the women’s vault all-around final, she walked us through her pre-vault makeup routine. First in the lineup? None other than our 10x-award-winning Hydro Grip Primer. “I’ve just worked so hard mentally to get to this moment,” she says in the TikTok before uncapping a familiar green bottle and applying a thin layer of our best hydrating face primer all over her face.

Fast forward a few hours, and the two icons made history together. We all cheered when Simone performed a flawless vault routine that featured a skill so impressive, it was named after her: the Biles II. But if we’re being honest, we think her dewy makeup deserves a medal of its own for staying gripped under pressure—in front of an audience of millions, no less.

“What makes Hydro Grip Primer so special is that it holds back sweat and oil from ruining your makeup,” says Sara Wren, Milk Makeup’s Director of Artistry. “It’s the perfect choice for the gymnastics floor because it has a balance of blue agave and hyaluronic acid, so skin never feels dry when you wear it under makeup.” You might not have balance beams and handsprings listed in your summer plans, but the point is that Hydro Grip is truly prepared to have your back through anything. “Whatever test you put it up against, your complexion will be budge-proof,” says Sara. Personally, we don't think you'll find a harder test than Simone Biles' Olympics routine.

Since launch, Hydro Grip has been a record-breaking hit with our Milk Fam. But if you’re new to this formula, think of it as the ultimate insurance for any makeup look. Sara especially loves using it to create a long-lasting dewy glow like Simone’s. “It will always be the one product I recommend that will completely change your makeup bag,” she says.

Just pump one to two times, smooth it on, and let it set for 60 seconds to activate its grip. Once the grip is set, layer your favorite skin tint or foundation on top, add the rest of your makeup, and you’re ready for anything—whether that’s a sweaty summer commute or, you know, casually defying gravity and winning Olympic gold.
