The best matte setting spray won't leave your skin dry or dull. We promise—there are far better options, and in our (not-so-humble) opinion, our new Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray is it. The latest addition to our Pore Eclipse lineup leaves skin with a soft-focus, filtered look, and sets makeup up to 16 hours.
“Matte skin is coming back in style and it’s not just for [folks who are oily]. Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray works so well with all skin types and tones,” says Milk Makeup Director of Artistry Sara Wren. “It’s so hard to find clean, alcohol-free setting sprays that are mattifying without being dry.” At least, it was hard until now.
Ahead, find out all you need to know about Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray, including why it’s the best matte setting spray for oily skin (and beyond).
What is setting spray?
Applied as the last step in your makeup routine, setting sprays ensure your makeup stays on longer. They can be formulated to have different finishes or even create a water-resistant layer for makeup. However, many setting sprays use alcohol as a base to do that, which can dry out your skin. Not over here at Milk, though—we use alcohol-free formulas for both of our setting sprays (Pore Eclipse and Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray), and pack in ingredients for added skincare benefits.
What’s the difference between Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray and Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray?
Both setting sprays lock in your makeup. The main difference is that Hydro Grip leaves a dewy, glowy finish, while Pore Eclipse imparts a soft matte look. “This is a great matte setting spray that can be used every day,” says Sara. “When we think of setting sprays, especially matte ones, it's like this long wear, all-night [vibe], instead of a diffused, soft finish.” With Pore Eclipse, you don't have to sacrifice either: “It just makes everything look nice and soft, and keeps the makeup locked on.”
How does Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray work?It all comes down to the mattifying formula, featuring pore-blurring microspheres that lend a soft, filtered look. “The whole Pore Eclipse family has niacinamide, which minimizes the look of pores, and lentil extract, which is actually lentil crushed up into a powder that absorbs excess oil all day long,” explains Dianna Ruth, Milk Makeup Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer. To ensure the ingredients work most effectively, shake the bottle to activate the formula. Otherwise, the pore-blurring microspheres can settle at the bottom. The non-aerosol spray applicator also sets Pore Eclipse apart from other makeup setting sprays. When held eight to 10 inches away from your face, it releases a micro-fine mist that dries quickly. Plus, “It goes on crystal clear, so it's great for every skin tone,” says Dianna. “It's never going to show up on your clothing, which is a big issue with a lot of setting sprays.” Is Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray good for all skin types? If you’re looking for our best setting spray for oily skin, you can call off the search: The oil-controlling lentil extract and pore-blurring microspheres in our formula have got you covered. But you don't have to have oily skin for this to work—Pore Eclipse spray is good for all skin types. That means if you’ve got dry skin but still want a matte finish, you’re in luck, too: “It is alcohol-free and has calming moonstone,” says Sara, who adds that the formula is “ideal for people with dry skin looking for a non-drying matte finish.” Pore Eclipse is also suitable for sensitive skin, though you should always do a patch test first. |
How to use Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray
Get a soft-focus, matte look with Sara’s go-to makeup routine:
1. Prep
As always, the makeup artist starts with proper skincare, so go through your usual routine first to make sure your skin is properly prepped.
2. Prime“I like to go right on top with Pore Eclipse Primer while my moisturizer is still damp,” says Sara. “Then I leave it to dry down for 60 to 90 seconds to make sure the base is super smooth and matte.” 3. ConcealFor an even canvas, Sara uses the Future Fluid All Over Cream Concealer, "to help cover any dark circles, blemishes, or dark spots.” 4. The detailsNext, follow up with any makeup steps you like. For Sara, that means: “I apply Sculpt Stick, Matte Bronzer, and Lip + Cheek to my face and blend together. I let that sink in while I work on brows, lashes, and lips.” 5. SetFinally, apply setting spray. “Give Pore Eclipse a good shake to activate the formula, and spray two to three times,” says Sara, adding, “let that dry for 60 seconds for a matte, 16-hour setting finish.” Bonus tip: “To alleviate any oily spots, like at the T-zone, shake and spray a bit of Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray onto a sponge and gently blot on top of the oily spots,” says Sara. “It won't mess up the makeup but will mattify without adding any heavy product to the skin.” Pretty easy, right? Your matte makeup looks are about to be next level. Grab a bottle of Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray and see for yourself. |
