3 Cool Ways to Nail the Cherry Blush Trend

No cherries were harmed in the making of these looks.

Is it cherry blush, tomato girl, or jelly donut? The names keep changing, but red blush is a makeup trend that will never fade away. While each trend puts its own spin on the look, its core stays the same: flushed, radiant cheeks with a timeless glow. Here’s how to wear red blush like a pro.

FWIW: At Milk Makeup, cherry blush isn't a trend, but a go-to look. Our internet-breaking and award winning Cooling Water Jelly Tint delivers a long-lasting dewy color, keeping lips and cheeks of all skin tones looking juicy all day long.

If you prefer a cream blush, our Lip + Cheek delivers nourishing, can't-get-wrong color that blends in seamlessly. Both our Jelly Tint and Lip + Cheek have non-comedogenic formulas and skin-loving ingredients—and can be used on the lips and cheeks.

If comparing your cheeks to a cherry sounds too daring, have no fear: “Red tones are universally flattering and can make your teeth look whiter and your eyes brighter,” Milk Makeup’s Director of Artistry Sara Wren says.

Plus, red doesn’t always have to look as pigmented on cheeks as it does on lips. Our blushes are effortlessly buildable and blend like a breeze, so you can easily take your cherry blush from a hint of fruity color to a bold splash of sweetness depending on your look.

Need some cherry blush inspo? Here’s how to wear it in three fresh ways.

Soft Cherry

“The Cooling Water Jelly Tint in Splash is my staple on busy days when I’m running around and breaking a sweat, but still want to give my face a soft, natural flush that also keeps me cool. I tend to embrace the dewy look on days like this, so I pair the Jelly Tint with products from the Hydro Grip collection.

I start with the Hydro Grip + Glow Primer to give my base a subtle glow. I’ll then rub and tap a small drop of the Hydro Grip Gel Tint into my skin using my fingers for some light coverage. Once that has set, I laminate my eyebrows with the KUSH Fiber Brow Gel

For cheeks, I swipe the Jelly Tint in Splash directly onto my face—starting at the apple of my cheek and going up toward the outer corner of my eyelid. I blend it out using a clean fingertip, layering as needed to get my desired level of pigmentation. Some days, one swipe is enough; other days, I build up to four layers. No matter how much I apply, it still looks natural and feels weightless. Finally, I tap a bit of Jelly Tint in the same shade onto the center of my lips.

To finish the routine, I swipe my sculpt stick on my eyelids and under my cheekbones, sweep on a couple of coats of KUSH Waterproof Mascara, and set everything with a few sprays of the Hydro Grip Setting Spray. ”

Bright Cherry

"There are few makeup looks, in my opinion, that Lip + Cheek in Flip doesn’t suit. It's one of my go-to blush colors. Besides the fact that it goes with everything, I also like it for when I put on a shade of blush that’s not fully complementing my makeup. Once I add a little Flip, it hides a multitude of sins.

With my medium-deep complexion, I goes bold with the color, using a brush to layer it on so the pigment hits just right. I typically keep the rest of my face relatively neutral, as you see here with my taupe-hued shadows. As for the rest of my face, a little Future Fluid All Over Cream Concealer under my eyes, KUSH Brow Fiber Gel through my brows, Infinity Eyeliner in Outer Space and KUSH Mascara pull the look together."

Dark Cherry

"Lip + Cheek in Muse has a deeper cherry hue reminiscent of a fresh-picked Bing. It also reminds me of sipping on Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry Soda at the local Jewish deli as a kid, so I decided to create a sparkling ode to that.

This time, I went cheek-first into my makeup routine. I stamped Lip + Cheek onto the center of my cheeks, directly below my pupils. Next, I melted the pigment into my skin with my fingertips, continuing these steps until I built up a stunning dark cherry haze. Then, I spot concealed with Future Fluid and made sure to get around my nose. (This keeps your cherry blush looking less like you have a cold.)

Next up: the eyes. I created a subtle veil of silver glitter all over my lids and under my lower lashes with Color Chalk in Freeze. With a fluffy brush, I buffed it out toward the tops of my cheekbones to give them a twinkly highlighter effect. Then, I tightlined my lower lash lines with Infinity Long Wear Eyeliner in Outer Space before dragging the pigment on the outer corners out into horizontal flicks. I went on to blend Color Chalk in Trampoline below it for a reverse liner effect.

And last, but not least, I smudged Muse onto my lips and layered Odyssey Lip Oil Gloss in Voyage on top to really round out the dark cherry vibes.”
