Meet Our Best Blur Stick For Serious Shine Control

The Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick has landed!

OG Milk Makeup fans remember our classic Blur Stick. We know you’ve been missing it. Good news: We just took it and made it into our best blur stick ever. Meet Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick, your new best friend for soft matte skin on the go.

We combined the skin-caring, makeup-locking powers of our fan-fave Pore Eclipse line with the mattifying, pore-blurring magic of the original Blur Stick. Not only does Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick pack skincare benefits that the first iteration lacked, but we also improved its texture to glide onto skin effortlessly and smoothly. Bonus: the soft-matte primer stick is now non-comedogenic, making it more effective and less pore-clogging for those with acne-prone skin.

Here’s everything you need to know about our latest and greatest that primes your skin and control shine with a soft-matte finish—whenever, wherever.

What is a blur stick?

When we set out to make a blur stick, we wanted it to live up to the name. It had to be easy to swipe on and leave a smooth, soft matte finish behind. Because it’s supposed to go all over your face, it also had to actually be good for your skin. Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick zaps away oiliness and shine on the go while locking on makeup for up to 16 hours, all with skincare supercharged ingredients. The formula is transparent—on all skin tones—and won’t cake, crease, or dry skin out in the process.

Blur Stick is suitable for all skin types. If a soft matte look is what you’re after, you can use it. But it’s still our best primer for acne-prone skin and an essential for on-the-go makeup touchups and fighting shine.

How does Blur Stick work?

Glide Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick all over your face before makeup application—just as you would with Pore Eclipse Primer—for a smooth, soft-matte base. It’ll help keep it from fading or getting crazy oily for up to 16 hours. The travel-friendly formula also feels weightless on skin, so you don’t have to worry about the primer stick feeling heavy or thick on your face. “I love using Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick on set to smooth out any texture on skin under makeup,” says Milk Makeup’s Director of Artistry Sara Wren. “Even dry skin can deal with enlarged pores or textured skin, so this formula is perfect for smoothing out that texture without drying out skin.”

You can reach for Blur Stick instead of blotting papers (which can get a little grimy in your bag) whenever your skin needs an instant shine reset. “This formula is not just a basic primer,” Sara shares. “Using it on top of makeup is a great way to absorb and block oil without disrupting makeup or adding layers upon layers of cakey powder.”

What's in Blur Stick?

Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick features an out-of-this-world dual-core formula. The outer ring is spiked with pore-blurring ingredients. Niacinamide teams up with bakuchiol to minimize the appearance of pores and smooth out skin instantly and over time. We added tea tree oil, too, to help tone and soothe skin. The inner core focuses on oil absorption with shine-controlling lentil extract and detoxifying charcoal, which gives it a natural black hue.

Like Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer, the blur stick form is silicone-free. Instead, we use blurring microspheres to smooth out skin and give it a filtered effect. Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick is also vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, and gluten-free.

How do you use a blur stick?

To use Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick as a primer stick, gently swipe it directly onto clean, bare skin, focusing on your T-zone, for its oil-controlling, pore-blurring benefits. Then, blend it in with your fingertips before diving into your makeup routine. We love pairing it with Future Fluid Concealer, Sculpt Stick, Matte Bronzer, and Cooling Water Jelly Tint for a low-effort soft matte makeup look.

You can also use Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick to spot conceal. Sara likes to apply the product directly onto areas with texture, like breakouts, in a circular motion for some extra smoothing action. Then, you can layer Future Fluid on top, and it will go on evenly and stay even all day long.

To apply over makeup for midday touchups and keep shine in check, Sara recommends gently tapping clean fingers onto the blur stick before tapping the product onto your skin “until you have reached your perfect level of matte-ness.”

Is Blur Stick good for mature skin?

Blur Stick was formulated to work well on all skin types, including mature skin, which also reaps the benefits of the smoothing, pore-blurring microspheres that work like an IRL filter. It’s also formulated with niacinamide, which is known to help brighten skin and decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Also in the sauce: bakuchiol, which has retinol-like properties that help smooth skin without any irritation. It stimulates cell turnover and promotes collagen production to help improve overall skin tone and texture.

How is Blur Stick different from Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer?

Overall, Pore Eclipse Matte Blur Stick is more of a multitasker than the Mattifying Primer. It’s more portable than the OG primer, making it better fit for mess-free, on-the-go touchups. Blur Stick also has a couple different ingredients added to it for extra mattifying benefits: activated charcoal for oil absorption and tea tree oil to soothe and tone acne-prone skin.

Make some space in your bag—we can already tell this is one you’ll want to take with you. Grab one and stick it to shine. Anytime, anywhere.
