Ming Lee Simmons has been that girl for some time now, but her Vogue Beauty Secrets video just cemented her place as our Gen Z queen. Besides the fact that it’s chock-full of our Milk Makeup faves, Simmons also bravely discussed her PCOS and endometriosis diagnoses and the impact these conditions have had on her skin. We couldn’t love her more for it.
As the video opens up, a beaming, fresh-faced Simmons immediately starts dropping gems. Her first tip? Slather on a hearty helping of SPF. This helps her combat acne hyperpigmentation and scarring, she says.
Simmons’ acne-prone skin has taught her another crucial lesson: moisturizer is a key component of the healing process. After her favorite cream is applied, she turns to our award-winning Hydro Grip Primer. The beauty of this fan-favorite is that it doesn't break her out, plus it keeps makeup in place for up to 12 hours, leaving skin hydrated and dewy all day.
Once that’s done, Simmons follows by spot concealing the areas she wants to even out, applying skin tint and under eye concealer, then grooming her brows with a brush. At this point, she shares that she learned to do her makeup to suit her acne-prone skin during the pandemic. Her PCOS and endometriosis were making her breakouts particularly intense—wearing masks made it worse. But in that time, Simmons says, she learned how to go without makeup, too.
“Nobody has perfect skin,” she shares. “My best advice for people that struggle with acne, first and foremost, is to understand that everybody struggles with acne. Especially as women—we have PMS, we have so many different things going on.” While her overall message is one of self-love, she lets viewers know it’s okay to conceal those scars if they wish.
Back to the beat. Simmons added some definition to her face with our Sculpt Stick, which she loves for the way it seamlessly blends into her skin. She then moves on to use two shades of our Lip + Cheek cream stick to create a dimensional ombré blush effect. She then swipes a little bit on her lips to give them a matching flush of color.
Next up, she sets her face with our Pore Eclipse Matte Translucent Setting Powder in translucent light to brighten her complexion and get that soft matte finish. Bonus: it also reduces the appearance of pores and controls oil, making it great for acne-prone skin. After setting powder, she goes on to apply a powder bronzer, powder blush, nose contour, and another shot of powder blush.
Thought she was done there? Not quite. Simmons adds a powder highlighter to her cheekbones and nose before going on to eyeliner and lip liner. She turns to Sculpt Stick yet again to add a little bit of its cool brown hue to her lips. After a few more spritzes of setting spray and dabs of matte setting powder, she’s good to go.
The look is complete. Simmons signs off with a few words and another shoutout to Hydro Grip Primer, which she notes will keep her makeup on all day. “It’s just so good.”
